Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate weight loss in leukemic patients who died between 2013 and 2017. The research was carried out at the Hospital Santa Casa de Alfenas. he medical records of patients with leukemia who died between 2013 and 2017 were evaluated. The following data were collected: Type of Leukemia, Time of treatment, Sex, Age, Height, Weight at the beginning of treatment and last weight before death. The body mass index was calculated from weight and height and the World Health Organization standardization was used as a classification criterion. A linear weight loss was found in the individuals evaluated during the treatment period, regardless of the type of leukemia. The results showed that regardless of the type of leukemia there is weight loss and this is linear. Nutritional monitoring is necessary throughout the treatment period for successful interventions, since adequate nutritional status has a beneficial impact on the response to the treatment of the disease.
