Abstract

This study discusses parents' perception of behavior management techniques in pediatric dentistry and how these perceptions influence the selection and acceptance of approaches by dental health professionals. Through a literature review, a preference for techniques such as tell-show-do, distraction, and positive reinforcement was highlighted, associated with a reduction in children's anxiety during dental treatment. However, techniques like voice control and parental presence/absence showed varying perceived effectiveness. A preference for verbal approaches over restrictive techniques was observed, suggesting a preference for active child involvement in the process. Additionally, the importance of parental presence during procedures was emphasized, although ethical and legal implications should be considered. A more in-depth investigation into the reasons behind parental preferences and how these may vary culturally was proposed. These findings contribute to a broader understanding of behavior management in pediatric dentistry, promoting more effective clinical practices and a welcoming environment for children and families.
