Abstract

The pulp of deciduous teeth contains a significant amount of stem cells capable of differentiating into various cell types, allowing for an easy and minimally invasive way to obtain them. Therefore, the objective of the study was to conduct a literature review on the perspective of utilizing stem cells from exfoliated deciduous teeth as a promising source of stem cells. Thus, a literature search was carried out encompassing full articles published between 2000 and 2022 in the Scielo and PUBMED databases. In this review, the current knowledge and possible clinical applications of stem cells obtained from human exfoliated deciduous teeth were discussed. When comparing stem cells from deciduous teeth with those from other sources such as stem cells from permanent teeth, bone marrow, and the umbilical cord, it was observed that stem cells from deciduous teeth present a higher rate of proliferation and multiplication, without involving ethical or legal implications. It is concluded that these cells represent a new approach in regenerative therapy and offer a promising alternative for the treatment of various conditions.
