Abstract

The Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus L.) is a Non-Conventional Food Plant (PANC) and despite the decrease in the consumption of PANC, it is still used in cooking and known for its medicinal properties. The hydrogel is commonly indicated as a soil conditioner, which can bring benefits to it, however, there are few studies evaluating its application in Nasturtium. So, the objective of this stud was to evaluate the influences of the use of hydrogel in the initial production of two different cultivars of nasturtium. The work was developed at Universidade José do RosárioVellano, using seeds from the common cultivar and seeds from the hybrid cultivar. The treatments were distributed in a randomized block design, in a 6X2 factorial scheme, with six levels of hydrogel and two cultivars of nasturtium. The treatments consisted of grams of hydrogel per plant: Treatment 1: 0 g/l, Treatment 2: 1 g/l, Treatment 3: 2g/l, Treatment 4: 3g/l, Treatment 5: 4g/l, Treatment 6: 5g/l. Increasing hydrogel doses resulted in negative linear regression (P<0.05) for fresh weight and shoot dry weight production of both varieties of nasturtium. The addition of hydrogel negatively influenced (P<0.05) the shoot yield and the number of lateral buds of the main stem of both hoods. Despite negatively influencing the shoot weight, the use of hydrogel did not significantly influence the root weight of both cultivars. The increase in hydrogel doses negatively influenced the production parameters of fresh weight and dry weight of shoots of both varieties of nasturtium.
