Osteonecrosis consists of a degenerative inflammatory process associated with vascular lesions, where there is a reduction in blood flow with a decrease in the supply of oxygen and micronutrients. It is characterized by hypovascularization and hypocellularity of the bone structure, leading to necrosis. It is a complication that can cause major mutilations, functional and psychological damage and drastically interfere with the patient's quality of life. Ozone therapy has been shown to be a promising approach associated with conventional treatments. Objective: To analyze the therapeutic benefits of ozone therapy for the treatment of drug-resistant osteonecrosis of the jaws, considering the indication and applicability of this conservative management in controlling the disease and improving the patient's quality of life. Materials and methods: The narrative review involved a bibliographic search of electronic databases such as Medline, PubMed, Scopus and Embase. The search included articles from the last 13 years, with qualitative analysis to assess the benefits of adjuvant therapy with ozone in the management of this disease. Results: Of the studies published in the last 13 years, nine showed clinical relevance. These studies show that ozone therapy associated with conventional treatment optimizes tissue repair, reduces the number of radical procedures involving more extensive surgery, consequently minimizing sequelae and improving patients' quality of life parameters. Conclusion: Drug osteonecrosis presents challenges and controversies in its management. Ozone therapy has emerged as a promising therapy, when combined with conventional treatments, to enhance tissue repair and control the disease. New randomized clinical trials are essential to evaluate ozone therapy protocols as an adjuvant therapy for osteonecrosis, with the aim of providing an effective approach and improving patients' quality of life.Additional Files
