Abstract

This research reviews the literature to map the instruments for assessing theory of mind in children. Addressing the concept of Social Cognition, related to the perception and interpretation of intentions and actions of others, including Theory of Mind, fundamental for social skills and psychosocial functioning. The ability to attribute different mental states to others is crucial and develops in childhood, with studies highlighting different levels of understanding. Using bibliographic research, we identified that Theory of Mind assessment ranges from simple tasks, such as understanding desires, to complex tasks involving false beliefs. Various tests and tasks are employed to assess TOM, allowing for the evaluation of child development and conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. This approach provides insights into the performance of children at different developmental stages and individuals with special needs.
