Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate the impacts caused by revictimization in cases of sexual abuse and attempted femicide perpetrated by members of society, as well as the role of family and state institutions in receiving victims. A descriptive and qualitative method was used, as the research was conducted through bibliographic consultations with both indirect and direct documentation. Based on an analysis of patriarchy and its influences on societal behavior, it is noted that patriarchal norms are applied in the treatment of direct and indirect victims of gender violence, especially in cases of sexual abuse and femicide. By analyzing the treatment provided by State institutions, family, media, and social networks, it becomes clear that these women often receive inadequate treatment, highlighting how these entities perpetuate revictimization. Thus, there is a need for cultural change and for the implementation of more effective measures by the State to avoid prolonging the victims’ suffering and to offer adequate support, from welcoming to legal protection, ensuring rights that protect them during criminal proceedings.
